When do you send the first correspondence?

When do you inform your family about the family reunion? If you have a reunion every 2 years, when do you send out your first correspondence about the reunion?

Save the Date Cards in Advance
by: Anonymous

We have our Family Reunion every other year in the fall. We send out "Save the Date" notifications about 4 to 5 months in advance. I print them on cardstock so they can put them on the refrigerator and that gives them plenty of time to get off work, offer to volunteer etc.

As soon as possible

My personal opinion is that the sooner you can tell your family about an upcoming reunion, the better. Many locations won't accept reservations until a year prior to your desired date, but even without a confirmed location, you could send your family a "save the date" card or announcement, listing the anticipated date and location. Just as soon as you can, book the location then immediately let your family know. A more formal invitation, letter or updated announcement should be made one year in advance, with updates at 6 months and 3 months prior. This planning timeline might help you keep track of what needs to be done when.

Good luck!
