Spaller Family Christmas Reunion
by Donna Long
Our 29th annual Christmas Reunion will be held this year. Since our reunion is in December we rent a hall. To pay for the hall and other expenses we have a Chinese Auction. Favorites for the auction include handmade and homemade items. We usually fill 12 big tables. We sell tickets at 5/$1.
We also have a DJ who plays Christmas and other music
. We have Santa come for the children. He happens to be a family member, which means he knows a lot of names. It's fun to see the kids wide-eyed when Santa calls them by name.
We have 3 scrambles during the reunion. A candy scramble for the kids with every kind of candy imaginable poured all over the floor. An Adult candy/lottery scramble. It's so much fun to see my adult cousins jumping over each other to get the lottery tickets. Finally we have a physically challenged candy scramble for those who need to sit down. The goodies are dumped out before them on a large table. In this scramble we include candy, lottery tickets and small sample sized items.
We have family pictures
taken. We have 50/50 raffle (sometimes 2) with half the winnings going to the reunion and the other half to the winner. In the past we brought in as much as $230 for each!
There is lots of great pot luck food and desserts
. Each family brings their own beverage and the reunion provides plates, cups, napkins, coffee, cream & sugar.
We sometimes have a trivia contest and an art station
for the kiddos. It's so much fun! My Dad had 11 brothers and sisters so our family is very large! I am so thankful that I can still do something for my Dad by keeping his family together even though he has been gone for 22 years!
Would love to see some Christmas Reunion ideas on your site!!! Thank You.
