Leyva Reunion

by Linda Ayer
(Winnemucca, Nevada)

We have a reunion every year in July the weekend closes to July 22 because that is my grandmother's birthday, she died in 1988. I was tired of just getting together on wedding and funerals, so I started the reunion. Our reunion start on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday afternoon. One family hosts the reunion. We have a raffle to help the host with cost that us usually on Saturday afternoon. We have awards prizes for member for different categories like oldest and youngest etc. We have T-shirt for family members a elder from branch choose a color for their family to buy before the reunion my second cousin John handles this since it was his idea. Anytime you get together you make memories, pictures always help. I think our family adds meaning to the reunion by having them every year, by everyone have respect and manners and that every one is important to our family no matter what the age is. You could ask each one this question and get a different answer about the great part...to me the more family you get involve the better it is.

Love it!

I love your comment about why you started the family reunion - being tired of gathering for weddings and funerals. Isn't that the truth. It sounds like you have a contagious attitude about the importance of family.

Keep up the good work!
