So Many Mixed Feelings

I am sitting all alone in my sister-in-law's house, in between family reunions. It's uncomfortable. I've been doing laundry and cleaning my son's vomit most of the day. I feel inadequate, lonely, judged. I wish my kids would behave better. I wish I could get some good sleep. I wish I could connect with my husband. Mostly I wish I could crawl back into my shell of familiarity and comfort. (Where are the chocolate chip cookies when I need them??) But we don't have family reunions because they're comfortable. We have them because they create memories, strengthen family bonds and make us better people - even when they include uncomfortable moments. And even when I have to face lingering insecurities of the past.
