Do we change locations from Alabama to California?

Family originated in Greenville, Alabama. Many of the elders still live there. Reunions are held every other year. For the past 25 years the reunion has always taken place there. Request has been made to change the location. The elders probably will not be willing to travel. The reunion culminates with attending a homecoming revival service at the church where we all attended while growing up there. Many of the family members visit grave sites and homesteads of our ancestors. Usually the location for the next reunion is decided at the closing of each reunion. As a result of the above request for relocation, it was decided to conduct a survey to make the determination. California and Birmingham was two of the suggested locations. I am sure the elders will not be willing to travel. The eldest is 101 years old. Thank for your assistance.

My suggestion is continue the reunion at the current location. To move it would be like celebrating Plymouth Rock at a location other than Plymouth Rock.

I've decided

I've been thinking about your question for what seems like forever! ;)

And ultimately, agree with you -
I think you have to choose a location where the elders can attend. A reunion is usually most meaningful to the older generations and the younger generations should cater to their elders.

That said,
what if you encouraged a smaller "cousin" reunion/vacation/trip or something of the sort on the off year (or off time) for the more adventurous group? The trick would be to ensure that the "extra" didn't replace the "main."
