Reservation Fees or Silent Auction
by: Lydia

If you're lucky, your reunion is an established event and has its own bank account, planning committee and registration dues.

If you're UNlucky (like most of us), you do what you can on a year-to-year basis.

First, establish a realistic budget. How much is the facility really going to cost? Are there other portions of the reunion that will cost money that needs to be split among attendees?

Next, determine how much money you need from each sibling or family branch. And then ask them to pay their share by {whatever} deadline. Always assign a deadline, even if you don't really have one.

As the planner, you will have to make some sort of deposit or reservation fee to secure the facility. Ask the same of your family - have them pay a part - or all - of their "reservation" fee in advance. Many times this will help get attendance commitments as well.

Lastly, hold a silent auction or some other fund raising type event as part of your reunion activities. At a minimum, you could set out a donation bucket. Save the funds raised to use as seed money for the next family reunion.

I would love to hear others' suggestions and ideas on this!
