Browns' Family Christmas

by Amanda Brown
(Washington)

Dan and Amanda Brown invite our family for an old-fashioned Christmas in Leavenworth, Washington.

Here is a tentative itinerary:

Dec 24th: ARRIVAL DAY

Check in time is 3pm. We will be there getting things settled and welcoming guests.

After all guest have arrived, we plan to go to the Christmas Lighting Festival in Leavenworth and dinner will be in town at one of the restaurants.

Dec 25th: CHRISTMAS DAY

This day is planned for family at the cottage with trimming the tree and other decorations. Dinner will be turkey and ham, with a side dish provided by each family.

Gift exchange: Each family will bring an ornament for each member of their family from the state in which they live. It will be hung on the tree and numbered. At the end of the day we will draw for those numbers and we each get to take a different ornament home.

Dec 26th: ADVENTURE DAY

A day for sledding, sleigh rides, wine tasting and just all around adventure.

Dec 27th: DEPARTURE DAY

Family brunch at 9am before check out at 11am.

Families may contact me regarding the side dish for Christmas dinner and I will ensure all the ingredients are ready.

Visit the lodge website at www.mtsprings.com for information on the sleigh rides and other activities. We do have to reserve those in advance. Around October is what I was thinking.

Please contact me if you have any questions. navygirl08@hotmail.com

lasagna options
by: Drenda

Ok folks. I've come up with 4 different lasagna recipes:
1) spicy chipotle lasagna
2) white cheese chicken lasagna
3) traditional w/ ricotta
4) hearty veggie w/ italian sausage and cottage cheese instead of ricotta

each should feed 12 and with salad and bread should be enough for an army of Atk-Nie-Man-Oyl-Zimm-sons

he he

can't wait! love you all

Side Dish and Crafts
by: Shawna

Hi Gang!
We are driving up, and planning to pack sleds and snowsuits so if anyone needs anything I'm sure we can fit it in the truck just let us know.
I would like to make greek spaghetti as a side for Christmas dinner if that sounds good. Keeping a little tradition in there for us and you all get to try something new (hopefully)!
I like the idea of making and filling the kids' stockings! I would also like to do a craft with the kids. I have supplies to make little picture frames and I thought it would be cute to get a picture of all the kids together to put in them. Does anyone have a small photo printer they could bring? If not..we will fill the frames later!
Getting excited to start to plan the big trip!! See you all soon:)
xoxoxo
Shawna
p.s. Drenda--with the water chestnuts and velveeta?! YUMMY!!
Amanda--we would like to do the sleigh ride.

recipe
by: Drenda

Hi all,
I came across this really yummy green bean casserole recipe:

3 cups frozen french style green beans, thawed
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 1/2 cups frozen corn, thawed
1 can sliced water chestnuts
1 med onion, chopped
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup cubbed velvetta cheese
5 tsp butter
1/3 cup crushed butter flavored crackers
2 Tbsp slivered almonds

What do you think? If you like it, add the ingrediants to your shopping list and I'll bring the recipe to make on Christmas Day.

I'm still planning to bring 4 different varieties of lazagna for Saturday dinner. Will you please add french bread and salad fixings to your grocery list also.

love you all and I'm getting very excited. See you soon!

Drenda

******OCTOBER********
by: Amanda

Hey everyone! Sure hope your fall has been great! I am gearing up for Halloween and of course the arrival of the new baby. YEA!

I wanted to update everyone on the progress of the planning.
First off, there have been a couple of changes.
1. We are going to have the kids make thier own stockings and have thier parents fill them for Christmas morning. We are still going to do the ornament exchange but everyone should only bring one ornament per family instead of per family member. So we should have 7 or 8 ornaments because we have 7 or 8 families.

2. I was hoping to go on the "feed the horses" sleigh ride on Sat, but I decided that just doing a regular sleigh ride would be just as good and save a little bit of money. Let me know if you are interested in going on a horse drawn sleigh ride sometime Sat.

Also it is OCTOBER (wow) so I will be making the reservations for activities and for the Sunday brunch. Please let me know if you would like to be included in the sleigh ride and if there are any other activites you are intersted in.

As for the food, Aunt Tena has lots of great ideas and she is running with it! YEA! Let me know if there is anything that should be added to the grocery list or if there is kitchen stuff that I should plan on bringing.

We are going to have such a great weekend together celebrating Christmas! I just can't wait!

Love ya,
Manda

Bringing for food
by: Aunt Tena

Hey there I'm planning on bringing several loaves of bread, pumpkin, banana nut, zuccinni, all with and w/o nuts, also I thought with my bread machine I was going to make a couple batches of cinnamin roll dough and cut and freeze also to use Christmas morning along with Brendas' famous sticky buns of course. What you think? I was also going to bring my pie plate for pumpkin pie, and my glass plate for devilled eggs and Shawna has the chilled container for eggs too so I guess we need you have a few doz eggs for us to fix. And I also have a couple Christmas plates for goodies--but they,re glass maybe just plastic wood be better uh.

activities for kids
by: Aunt Tena

OK this is what Shawna and I thought to do, after I told her about Drenda's and I conversation about a Christmas pagent. Actually it's more like a little skit, we already have baby Jesus right, so with the other kids it would be fun to do a reading from a Christmas storybook and have all the kids have a part even the big ones. This will take some creative thinking with the costumes (homemade of courseas part of the project). Shawna is looking for some childrens storybooks at her school and with Brandons Grandma Bert who does sunday school with her grandkids, but if anyone else has a good one already we could use and go from there. It would be fun and of course Drenda is elected to be the director. ha ha!!
Oh and about the pizzas we could all bring our pampered chef pizza pans that would be at least 4 of them right we could switch them out to save time and make more.

*****UPDATE*****
by: Amanda

-I have learned that the "festival" in town will not be going on Christmas Eve. The town will still be all lit up with Christmas lights. There is a live nativity scene at one of the churches. So, how does everyone feel about DIY pizza on the 24th?

-The lodge has a TV/DVD, I thought that we could all bring our favorite Christas movie to enjoy on Christmas day. Could give the kids something to do as well.

-I am planning on booking the breakfast "feed the horses" sleigh ride on the morning of 26th, just wondering if anyone else would be interested in that as well?

Post your ideas and let me know what you think!

Christmas Eve idea
by: Drenda

I really like Aunt Tena's idea to fix pizzas on Thursday evening for dinner prior to going into the village. I think it would be super quick and easy. I'm all about saving a few dimes for Saturday :)

first night Christmas eve
by: Aunt Tena

I thought instead of having dinner (so we could save our spending money for the adventure day) in the town, we could visit and see the lights after dinner. We could all fix together with kids too individual size (for kids) and large for us adults variety pizzas. It would be fun and then go sightseeing in the village.

Dinner Satruday night
by: Drenda

Since Saturday is the day to be out and about sledding and such, I would like to offer a dinner suggestion. Nikki and I would like to make and freeze lasagna so all we have to do is pop them in the oven. We can make several different varieties served with a nice salad and garlic bread. No one will have to slave over a hot stove! Thoughts?
